LRR40 - 40Meter SSB/CW Receiver

SEE NEW UPDATE MODEL ON OTHER PAGE

The LRR40 is a high performance single–conversion superhetrodyne 40Meter Receiver, utilizing two pole tuned band-pass input filters. It is particularly well suited for portable battery powered operation. The low I.F. is compatible with narrow, variable-bandwidth CW crystal filtering. This approach results in excellent CW and SSB performance. AM signals can be received in SSB modes. The VFO is stable microcontroller controlled DDS oscillator. Alignment is reasonably simple and no winding of inductors.
This circuit design follows a standard well-proven approach based on various kits available on WWW modifications have been done.

  13. Congrats OM Ganesan, VU3GEK-KJ6LRR ! I would love to buy the kit and assemble. But I think mounting/soldering the SMD components would be a bit tricky for me as I have never tried [ but interested to learn]..With the SMDs mounted by you, I would love to try assembling the rest of the kit ...

  14. Today 2nd Feb 2013, I have received 1st LRR40 & tested with my inverted V Antenna.
The calibaration is perfect & RX performance is comparable with my Yaesu FT 747 commercial rig.The attunauters 10dB & 20dB are found useful. All the very best for his good work which is required for budding Hams & SWLs.

  20. It was my first 40 meter reception on a superhat receiver.(17th Feb 2013)
    The Receiver was performing great!!
I am a novice to the Ham Radio receivers and antennas, after doing a whole day work on antennas and making and destroying 4-5 antennas, finally i used an inverted vee for this. (approx. 40 ft. high, 10 mtrs on both legs, using 1 sq mm 1100 v electricity wire).
    The ATT's 10dB & 20dB are very useful.
Thanks again N.Ganesan for choosing such a agile courier service!! approx. 2709 Km and on 4th day the parcel was in my hands!! and thanks again for his help for the Inverted vee's guidelines.

The LRR-40 is really a great work, Greetings to N. Ganesan and all the Operators/SWL's

A video recording of the reception is available on youtube.

  22. My Dear OM Ganeshan,

Yesterday, being Sunday, I spent maximum time with your LRR-40 ..

The Test Report arrives like 599 + 1000 dB

Really excellent workmanship and superb gain, selectivity and s/n ratio

    So much impressed.

Keep it up the good work. You can be the inspiration for the OT hams
like me who becomes LAZY after getting Icom, Yaesu or Kenwood rigs on
their desktops. You are the inspiration and catalysts to say.."Wake up
SID..!!" to all radio amateurs who have in-built home-brewer inside
    his/her soul...

I think this is the right definition to describe VU3GEK

    1. Dear VID,

      1) This receiver is designed for battery operation , audio out put will be only around 0.1Watts,you have to use only Head phone, if you need louder audio add external audio power amplifier, speaker etc.

      2) for Weak station reception add low noise pre-amplifier , for strong station reception remove the pre-amplifier and you can use 10dB and 20dB Attunator combination.

these are the limitations of this receiver.

Good quality external antenna is recommended for better reception quality

      by the way

ts 480 is Rs30,000/- and this receiver is Rs2300/- only

this receiver has its own limitations and limited specification.

Till date AUG /2013 Total 79 receivers have been shipped for SWLs to monitor the local QSO.

      VU3GEK - KJ6LRR
